APG Integrates Enterprise Architecture with Solution Delivery
APG Delivers Actionable Enterprise Architecture
Hudson, WI, February 28, 2009 — Armstrong Process Group (APG) announced today its
release of the APG TOGAF Process Library Plus Rational Unified Process (ATPL+RUP).
With their new product, APG has integrated the industry's premiere, open enterprise
architecture development method and framework – The Open Group Architecture
Framework (TOGAF™), with the industry's leading solution delivery method – the IBM
Rational Unified Process® (RUP®).
"In today's competitive economic climate, organizations more than ever need to
strategically manage their IT assets to lower development and operating costs, while
supporting the business' pursuit of innovation, market differentiation, and regulatory
compliance," said Chris Armstrong, President of APG. "ATPL+RUP provides
organizations an integrated framework of proven best practices and industry standards
that delivers these capabilities."
Research shows that top-performing organizations share a number of common success
factors, including: 1) assigning accountability for organizational change to key solution
delivery projects, 2) clarifying how architecturally-significant projects link to business
strategy, and 3) learning from each project to further develop internal capabilities to
effectively manage architecture assets.
ATPL+RUP shows how enterprise architecture influences activities in many different
aspects of solution delivery. ATPL+RUP identifies which TOGAF architecture
deliverables are relevant to solution delivery and associates them with specific tasks
within RUP. This includes tasks in the RUP disciplines of project management,
requirements, architecture, design, and testing.
"ATPL+RUP identifies two key roles who are the liaisons between enterprise architecture
and solution delivery," said Armstrong. "The Solution Architect helps solution delivery
projects understand their enterprise architecture context and requirements, and the
disposition of relevant architecture assets – reuse, buy, or build. The Architecture Review
Lead helps projects rationalize critical design decisions and demonstrate their
compliance with organization standards."
ATPL+RUP is an IBM Ready for Rational software validated product and integrates with
the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform. In particular, ATPL+RUP is designed to be
used with IBM Rational Method Composer (RMC), an Eclipse-based tool for defining and
manage business and IT development methods.
